The Coeur d'Alene Area
The city of Coeur d'Alene is named after the Coeur d'Alene people, a tribe of Native Americans who lived along the rivers and lakes of the Idaho region when they were discovered by French fur traders in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The name Coeur d'Alene means "Heart of an Awl," a reflection of the tribe's traders as very tough businessmen.
The beautiful city of Coeur d’Alene has a wealth of natural beauty and entertainment to enliven travelers from all over the world. Whether you want to enjoy breathtaking views over Lake Coeur d'Alene, seek out thrills at Silverwood Theme Park or go skiing, this city was named as "a slice of heaven" by Barbara Walters and is known locally as "the lake city."
